This Pub is Permanently Closed
Converted 1/11/1996 to become retail outlet. Closed 1/11/1996. History: Former Wilson's house. Opened 1820 when the new Wellington Road was built. The building was on two levels, the top one could be entered from the bridge, meanwhile the lower one was accessed from Mersey Square. It had a few incarnations in its latter years, but these only delayed its ultimate closure. The lower part became a household goods retailer, but the upper level was left to moulder into the 21st century; it's not quite in a ruinous state, so who knows what the future may hold? Opening Times magazine Aug 1996 reported re-opened.
