The Pier Hotel was built by R. S. and D. Crosthwaite in 1875. From about 1900 it was owned by the Newcastle brewers W. B. Reid, then around 1928 alterations were made to the pub which included moving the position of the doors and altering the interior.
On the 30th April 1959 Newcastle Breweries took over the pub. In the 1960’s the main bar was on the right hand side and the lounge was on the left. Since then both rooms have been knocked into one single area with the bar on the right hand wall as you enter. Real ale is available There is a pub quiz night every Wednesday. Note the interesting light bulb arrangement as you enter. 5 minute walk to town centre.
