A former coaching inn/blacksmith shop, this pub can trace its history back to the early 1700s or older, possibly as far back as the Battle of Boldon in 1644.
It has two rooms, a bar and a restaurant. The bar has an overall musical the theme created by the owner Pete Zulu, a former member of the Toy Dolls with a strong musical background. Photographs on display are also by Pete and are for sale. The two handpulls have changing local ales which are normally light session ales. The restaurant is very popular and has recently started specialising in vegan food. Meals can also be taken in the bar and outside in the partially covered area in front and to the right hand side of the pub..
