Standing out in the street, particularly in the summer when its garden boasts impressive floral displays, inside this is a down-to-earth community local. Sport is shown on a number of TVs, pub games include two dartboards, there is a regular music quiz, and live bands often perform. The pub also hosts an excellent annual music and beer festival in its grounds over the spring bank holiday weekend.
Historic Interest
The Plough and Harrow's 17th Century owners, the Catlins, were brewers. 17th and 18th Century sources refer to Bennetts Butts, a name applied to two cottages and a barn standing in an acre of land on the site of the Plough and Harrow. One of the two breweries that stood in Harpenden High Street was run by Benjamin Bennetts. His monogram, BB, can be seen on the gables of the Plough and Harrow.
