King's Arms Inn, Ockley

This absolutely charming 300 year old inn was perhaps better described as a dining house and hotel. From the main road the pub was entered via a small porch. The main bar area was at the front, with some of the tables laid for dining; there was a small lobby type of area off it towards the back and another area off this to the side. There was also a separate room at the back which was used for diners and for functions. The main bar also included an old inglenook in which a real fire burnt in winter and there was another old fireplace in the side room. The pub was well known for its food. Accommodation comprised six en-suite rooms, one of which having a four-poster bed. Outside the pub were some very well kept gardens. The pub had a civilised atmosphere and boisterous behaviour had no place in it. Even the ghost was quiet and friendly. Unfortunately the pub closed late 2012 and is to be converted into houses.
