This Pub is Permanently Closed
Hidden a short distance to the West of St James' Park, the Shield & Dagger is a welcome respite to any parent able to temporarily escape their children playing in the park. The pub is family run and serves freshly home-made bar food throughout the week and Sunday roasts from 12-6. Sports TV is displayed in the pub.
Historic Interest
A new build pub, planning for which was approved 14/05/1968, so probably built & opened sometime 1969/1970 as the Shield & Dagger. Renamed Stratton in 1990, reverted to Shield & Dagger prior to September 2004. Still a family pub when resurveyed in 2014, but later that year the management of the pub took a turn for the worse resulting in frequent police attention and eventually the licence was revoked 26/05/2016.
