Premises have been taken over by the owners of the Empire Café in Leeds City Centre and re-opened on 17th April and is a small bistro pub with an old fashioned feel off Bingley Street and the A65. It is a Victorian triangular shaped pub with a narrow main room and bar linked by a central doorway. The bar is in the left room is complete with old fashioned portraits and a wood floor off a tiled entrance. The right hand room has Tetley prints and mirrors plus a brick fireplace. Small tables are against the walls in both rooms. There is a smaller seating area to the side with retro signage on the walls. A word of caution: the gents toilets are labelled "Laddies". Open on Bank Holiday Mondays with limited menu.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: Not listed

Although opened out around the entrance, the original floor plan of this two-room pub is still discernible and some good fitted seating and windows survive from a 1923 refit by the Warrington brewers, Peter Walker. In the left hand room both counter and bar back are characterful and of some age though the servery was enlarged post-war after removal of the former off-sales. The right hand room is plain, with bench seating. A refurbishment in 2025 (when the pub slightly changed its name) saw no damage to the historic fittings.

General information about historic pub interiors

Preserves the elements of its original two-room layout and some good fitted seating and windows from a 1923 refit (by Warrington brewers Peter Walker). It has, however, been significantly changed post-war – its servery enlarged following removal of former off-sales, and its central partitioning largely removed (destroying the old separation of the vaults from the corridor). The loss of original windows from the ‘prow end’ bay window in the vaults and their replacements in plain glass is regrettable too.
