A traditional, cosy and intimate village pub. The tiled corridor leads to the small room containing the tiny corner bar with some fixed seating and multi-fuel burner to the right. The well-worn area to the left, perhaps once a separate room, that can hold a dozen people at most, has old photos of the village and many pig ornaments of various shapes and sizes. There is also a similarly sized but separate room to the right of the corridor. Under 15s are welcome until 7pm.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: Not listed

Tucked away in the upper part of the village, this small, drinks-only local (dubbed ‘Top House’) is excellent reward for the short climb. Good, old-fashioned character prevails strongly in its intimate front parts and, even in its altered back areas, the imprint of the original through-corridor layout is still very evident. The changes at the rear, probably in the early 1960s, removed some internal walls, brought the back-right room into pub use, and relocated the servery (note the stranded ‘hatch’, suggesting its earlier position).

General information about historic pub interiors

Tucked away in the upper part of the village, this small, three-roomed, drinks-only local (dubbed 'Top House') is excellent reward for the short climb. On the right as you enter is a small room with bench seating and a good fireplace. The servery area has 'rooms' to each side. That on the left has an archway cut through the wall, old bench seating all round, a 50s/60s fireplace and a window installed by former owners, Pubmaster. The rest of the back area was reorganised, probably in the early 60s, removing some internal walls, bringing the right-hand part into pub use and relocating the servery (the stranded 'hatch' suggests its earlier position). The passage of time has, though, lent the whole interior a patina of age and a good, old-fashioned character prevails throughout, with the imprint of the original through-corridor layout still very evident.
