The Windmill Hotel is a 17th Century Coaching House. Thomas Paine, a man considered to have devised the name “United States of America” at the time of independence and a published author and political activist, held the post of Excise Officer for Alford between 1764 - 1767. His office is in the Hotel. Street food trucks at the weekend.
