Opened 14/6/2019
Irish bar that focuses on live music. Risen from the ashes of what was the Glass Spider, it even retains many of the architectural features of its forebear. Essentially owned and run by the same folk too. NB. Galway Girl (hazy IPA) beer from Galway Hooker Brewery (ireland) available in cans.
History of Glass Spider: Stylish, upmarket "swing bar". For such a small interior, it was imaginatively fitted-out to make it appear larger. Thus, it featured plenty of leather button-back seating, Britannia tables, and dividing screens topped with leaded glass features. Some individual booths down one side added intimacy as each booth could be closed off with its own door.
Historic Interest
Re-opened 2/5/2024 as Banshee. Closed 3/4/2023 with uncertain future as the owner, Joe Patten, cited rising costs and fewer people going out meaning the venue was now unviable. Re-opened 5/8/2020 as the Glass Spider by Cracked Actor bar owner, Joe Patten. 23/10/2021 - Planning Application DC/083053 submitted for the demolition of existing single-storey lean-to and construction of a new single-storey extension to the bar. Installation of a flat roof to convert the existing ground floor courtyard into additional internal space for the bar kitchen. Opened 14/6/2019 as Vinabod (a Viking-themed tapas bar) in converted restaurant premises. That closed down 13/1/2020. This was a project by Jill Williams (and formerly Dan Scott); the unusual combination of tapas and Viking is down to Dan growing up in Spain and having a long-term interest in Norse mythology.
