Small, spartanly-furnished room including bar at the front. Bare-boarded with just one table, and a few high stools on which to perch yourself by the wall or the front windows. A multi-tier bookcase displays an array of bottles and cans for sale. Ascending three steps leads you to two rooms in succession which have a good deal more places to sit at tables; these rooms exude a warmer, more homely feel than the front of the pub. Small beer garden at the rear that plays host to street-food traders selling their hot food on 5-9 Fri-Sat. Four handpumps are prominent on the bar, plus ten keg taps on the wall (they variously feature IPAs, stouts, reds, and a sour / saison). They always have pies, and Scotch eggs / veggie-Scotch eggs.
Historic Interest
As of 1/4/2024, the business was taken over by Manchester's Blackjack Brewery, thus becoming a showcase for their beers. In August 2022 the pub became an extension of Ventile Brewery of Reddish, with a number of Ventile beers being on permanently. There would however, still be a comprehensive range of guest beers from independent breweries across the country. New bar and off-licence opened 7/2/2018 in former shop premises, by local enthusiasts Amanda Finch, and Chris Buxton. Planning Application 117300/FO/2017 | Change of use from Class D1 to Class A4 drinking establishment incorporating food sales with Class B1 office/work space above and associated external alterations including erection of canopy to rear to form covered drinking area. Granted 30/10/2017.
