Three miles north of Exeter, on the A377 Crediton road. Formerly the Stables. Multi-storeyed roadhouse with a large car park, a sun-trap patio at the rear, and two-level bars by the road. Most beers are from the Heineken range. A large country pub built onto a former smithy that became a flourishing agricultural engineering site in the late 19th century. Run by the Ellis family from 1879 until the 1960s. Now trying to build a reputation for food.
