Attractive 17th century pub, especially when the outside is adorned with colourful flowering baskets. Designed in a traditional style, the public bar features much dark wood and has a pool room off it. The courtyard, that provides handy cover for smokers, gives access to the garden and play area. The front entrance leads to the cosy lounge, a pleasant room with part given over to dining and from which entry can be gained to the restaurant. The lounge has a large fireplace at one end and a smaller one at the other, both providing focal points particularly when the fires are lit on cold days. The public bar is also cosy and has two sections with a music and sports theme. Outside bench seating at the front is popular if you want to sit and watch the world go by. There is an extensive menu offering classic bar meals along with salads and vegetarian and vegan options. Occasional live music and quiz night every other Thursday. It had a spell as a gastropub but has since reverted to being a more traditional locals’ pub having been taken over by seven members of the local community in 2020. Car parking is public in and around the square.
Reopened and under new management again from 9th July 2024; some of the above may be out of date.
