Historic Interest
Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the only public house ever designed by the great architect. The bricks are 16th-century style and Sir Edwin specified that they be imported from Belgium. The design of the chimneys pays homage to his Cenotaph in central London. The pub cost £7,000 to build and was opened on 23rd May 1936; today it bears a blue plaque in honour of Lutyens.
