This recently refurbished pub is situated in a prominent location at the top of one of Doncaster’s main streets. The refurb included the reinstatement of cask ale for the first time in many years.
The pub used to be a mainstay of the Doncaster real ale scene and Good Beer Guide. It was famous for brewing it’s own beer at a time when such things were very rare. The first the new owners did was reinstate the original beer, as a result Stocks ‘Old Horizontal’ and 'Select' are available again for the first time in over twenty years. Also available is Stocks 'St Ledger Gold" a new Stocks beer.
The pub has been internally divided. It now has a totally separate sound proofed live room with live music every weekend. A small charge may apply.
The front is very much a normal pub with the six hand pumps taking pride of place. It has Sky and BT Sports with the sound on only for major events.
There is a large very popular patio area at the back.
Six real ales on hand-pull including Stocks Old Horizontal which is brewed by Welbeck Abbey to the original recipe. Stocks Old Horizontal is a strong dark beer, Stocks Select is a traditional bitter. and Stocks St Leger Gold is a refreshing and crisp tasting golden ale. These together with three guest ales. Background rock music is played when no major sporting events are being shown on the TVs. May close early if no customers are in.
