A family oriented 170 seat pub divided into several differing drinking areas, there are children’s play areas inside and out, an adult only room and a part of the lounge where seating resembles that of an old railway carriage. There’s a quiz on Wednesdays and poker on Thursdays. Built in 1927 to serve the Great North Road and opened by John Smith’s brewery as the Broad Highway, this is still known as “t’ Broad by” older regulars. Buses on routes 350, 352 and 354 pass regularly and stop nearby. Now a Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery serving breakfast, lunch & evening meals. No cask ale.
