Small pub at the foot of Pride Hill (Shrewsbury's main shopping street) near the market hall. The downstairs room is part carpeted and has seating by the front window and a couple of other tables to the rear. Upstairs is another small room with bare floorboards housing the toilets, a pool table and dartboard. The name relates to an obscure local legend that a lamplighter in days of yore saved a girl from drowning in the nearby River Severn and in so doing lost his lantern. He then acquired another which never went out and it guided people home in the darkness. Under new ownership from late November 2025. It is hoped to re-introduce real ale in the furture.
