The Royal Oak is a traditional village pub, the heart, soul and social centre of the village. This 17th century thatched building has a main bar dominated by a vast open fire, with many exposed beams and horse brasses; adjoining the bar is an intimate restaurant. The pub re-opened in May 2017, after having been closed for five years and is now owned by a village consortium. A good choice of real ales is complemented by a varied traditional pub food menu.

This pub was closed by owner Charles Wells Pub Company in 2010 and sold by them to a property developer. A community group was formed, the pub was registered as an Asset of Community Value, and a determined campaign followed to buy the pub from the property developer owner, including successfully objecting to repeated planning applications for change of use to residential, but the owner refused to sell the pub to the community. Finally in 2017 the owner relented and since 2017 the pub has been owned and operated by group of eight villagers.
