This Pub is Closed Long Term
CLOSED:Once a great Burtonwood pub. The pub was believed to be one of the oldest in Vale Royal. It used to be a gamekeeper’s cottage but was mentioned as an alehouse in Weaver Township, an older name for Darnhall, in 1631.[Darnhall was originally known as Dernehole (a hidden place) in Saxon times]. The licensee on this date was John Robinson and in those long gone days the customer base would have been the surrounding farms and travellers on the ancient Over to Nantwich Road. The Indian restaurant sign still hangs at the front but that plan never saw fruition. Supposedly now awaiting development.
October 20th 2023. Three uinits of Cheshire Fire Brigade sent to deal with fire at premises. Police currently believe that the fire was started on purpose.
Historic Interest
From Northwich Guardian [2023]: The Raven Inn is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in the Vale Royal. It's name comes from the Corbett family, long-time residents of Darnhall Hall whose family crest was the raven. The pub was formerly a gamekeeper’s cottage but has been mentioned as an alehouse as far back as 1631. However, it closed down in 2007 and has remained empty ever since.
