This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.
Founded in 1878, the Excelsior Club now occupies a comfortable modern building just outside Sale town centre but still close to bus stops and the tram stop. The two main rooms are a concert hall with a fine parquet floor for dancing, and a snooker hall with two full size tables. Outside, and visible from the snooker hall, is a well tended and well used bowling green.
The club is affiliated to the Club and Institute Union (CIU). Non-members are welcome to visit.
Sadly it no longer stocks cask ale, because of falling demand. It does however sell Newcastle Brown Ale in bottles.
