Multi-roomed & historic 16th cent. inn with a long established reputation for good food & accommodation. Courtyard garden.

Historic Interest

Our assumption that the Angel was once called the Victoria Inn comes from the description in the Listed Buildings Register of the building opposite (on the corner of Park Rd & Scotland Street): Old Butcher's Shop occupied by K & K Electrical" as having previously been listed "opposite & to east of Victoria Inn" ----The Ipswich Journal** reported on May 01 1802: "A good ordinary at The Crown & The Angel - John DYBALL & John COOPER" ---- A report in the Bury & Norwich Post*** on Oct-05 in 1869 when Mr Piddock was the landlord states that: The Stoke by Nayland Cottagers' Vegtable, Fruit & Flower Show prize giving where a "Capital substantial Suffolk "meat tea" was provided for the committee in the evening, by host & hostess Piddock of the Angel Inn.
