The Royal Hotel was built in 1892 by R J Barrowman, and has proven over the years to be a figurehead of Cumnock town centre. The hotel was renovated in 2006 by the current owners. The Royal Hotel offers a spacious bar area, the 1906 Lounge Bar, which shows most major sporting events.
Historic Interest
Originally two hotels and at times shops as well. The original part of the Royal Hotel is the red painted section numbered 44 to 46 The Square and Category C listed, Historic Environment Scotland reference LB24107, The northern section, number 40 to 43 The Square was originally Black Bull Hotel and later the Mercat Hotel and was incorporated into the Royal Hotel around 2018 (The 1906 Bar opened on 02/11/2018). The Mercat / Black Bull is Category B Listed, Historic Environment Scotland reference LB24106.
