CAMRA welcomes return of authentic pub experience in Wales

Speaking as restrictions for pubs and social clubs are lifted across Wales on 7th August, CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said:

“The lifting of these restrictions is a huge step on the road to recovery for Wales’ pubs, social clubs and breweries, giving them the chance to be able to trade at full capacity for the first time in months.

“With table service being replaced by people ordering and chatting at the bar we will see the return of the authentic pub experience – as well as helping licencees to make ends meet and begin the road to recovery after a devastating 17 months.

“CAMRA is urging everyone to support our pubs, social clubs and the great local breweries that serve them in the weeks and months ahead, so our beloved locals can recover, thrive and continue to play a vital role at the heart of community life up and down the country.

“The Welsh Government must continue to provide financial support for pubs to help their recovery, as well as introducing better planning protections to stop them being lost to local communities. We are also calling on the UK Government to change the rate of duty on draught beer served in pubs to help them compete with supermarkets.”
