CAMRA shines a spotlight on women in beer this International Women’s Day

Picture1.png

CAMRA will be celebrating female brewers in the run-up to International Women’s Day (8 March) by introducing a special edition beer box and brewer-led virtual tasting, which will feature five of the nation’s top female brewers.

The tasting, which will take place at 7 pm on the 3rd of March, will be hosted by Laura Hadland, freelance food and drinks writer and bestselling author of 50 Years of CAMRA. Joining the panel will be:

  • Sara Barton from Brewster’s Brewing Company
  • Becky Kean from Nirvana Brewery
  • Elly Bell from Durham Brewery
  • Charlotte Cook from Coalition Brewery
  • Alesha Ivey from Five Points Brewery

Tickets for the event and accompanying beer box are £35 for members and £40 for non-members, available at the CAMRA Shop.

In addition, CAMRA will be promoting the female authors and experts who regularly contribute to its Learn & Discover education platform and its publishing arm over the coming month.

These include the likes of award-winning contributors including Alison Taffs, Emma Inch*, Ruvani De Silva, Katie MathersRachel Hendry, Jane Peyton and Hollie Stephens, among others.

Alex Metcalfe, CAMRA’s Learn & Discover Manager said: “Over 50% of the content we commission for our Learn & Discover platform – aimed at educating beer lovers and pub-goers about their favourite drink – is contributed by women, demonstrating the powerful voice that women have gained in the beer industry over the last few years.

“Beer is no longer a male pastime, and the female contribution to the beer industry must be celebrated and promoted every day of the year -not just on International Women’s Day.”

CAMRA has recently launched a consultation into inclusivity, diversity, and equality within the Campaign and at its events. Members and non-members are asked to share their experiences and feedback on interactions with the Campaign, such as at beer festivals and its communications. It will be running until Monday 14 February.
