CAMRA celebrates Cider Month throughout May

cidermonth.png

CAMRA members will be celebrating cider virtually throughout the month of May with a ‘content crawl’ timeline, marking the organisation’s biannual Cider Month.

With ongoing restrictions on pubs and the wider hospitality sector, the events will be mainly online this year. Instead, CAMRA will be replicating the feel of real-world events by publishing a month long ‘content crawl’ timeline. This will feature a selection of content aimed at both new cider drinkers, and those who already enjoy it.

New content pieces from some of the key figures in the cider and perry world will be published on the national website, and will be exclusively available to CAMRA members. The revealed content will include:

  • An updated map of cider and perry producers, to help consumers find new drinks to try
  • A new ‘Visiting Cider and Perry Orchards’ map
  • An episode of the CAMRA podcast ‘Pubs. Pints. People.’ dedicated to apples, orchards and the land, available on 25 May
  • Sharing other cider content producers, such as Apples and People celebrating apple blossom as part of their apple stories, a virtual tasting on 6 May with Cider is Wine, and a ‘Perry Special’ virtual tasting with Manchester Cider Clubs on 13 May

CAMRA’s Learn & Discover platform will also be hosting content on cider throughout the month, including a video series on the new ‘World of Cider’ by Gabe Cook and Bill Bradshaw starting in Scotland, as well as content from industry experts Alison Taffs, Jane Peyton and Emma Inch, Merlin Labron-Johnson and Matt Curtis.

Nik Antona, CAMRA National Chairman said: “We’re having to celebrate a little differently this May – however, despite having to go virtual, we have plenty for cider lovers to enjoy! Our virtual offerings have gone from strength to strength, and we are looking forward to sharing with our members a special cider episode of our podcast, and more excellent content on our Learn & Discover platform, which is a great resource with a range of audio, video and written guides to help members learn more about their favourite drink.

“I hope cider lovers enjoy following our content crawl timeline, and perhaps even find a new favourite tipple to recommend. We appreciate that many people are still unable to return to their locals for a cider or perry just yet. Our app Brew2You is still available to help you support your local cider or perry producer and get fresh drinks delivered to your home.”

CAMRA supports and campaigns for cider and perry throughout the year, and spotlights them with celebrations twice a year. These are in October and May, during which time local CAMRA branches organise cider and perry events across the country.

The month of May was chosen because it is when the orchards come into bloom and fruit begins to set which will then be harvested. It is also when cider and perry production in the previous year reaches maturity and can start being enjoyed.
