Opened in 2020, Vaux is a five-barrel microbrewery resurrecting the old Vaux Brewery name. Vaux was a major regional brewer, which closed in 1999. Its taproom is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The brewery is moving and doubling its capacity, but the taproom will stay where it is. During the currency of this Guide it plans to welcome the return of 1899, which is an old Vaux recipe for a 7% ABV bottle-conditioned stout.

Vaux - Black Wave
Black Wave pours jet black with a nice tan head and a distinct coffee aroma on the nose. It’s a full bodied beer that has a wonderful silky smooth mouthfeel from the flaked oats. We wanted this beer to be nicely balanced - not too dry but not too sweet either. There is a hint of chocolate there which is nicely balanced by the roasted coffee flavours coming through from the speciality malts. It’s a refreshing stout that keeps you coming back for more
