This award is presented by CAMRA to a person, group, organisation, idea, or concept (where a recipient can be identified) that has made an outstanding achievement, commitment, or contribution to the promotion of cask beer, cider or perry in clubs. The primary consideration is given to activities over the previous 12 months, however, where there is no outstanding contender in this category, consideration is then given to on-going outstanding work in this field.
Any person, group, organisation, idea or concept will be eligible to receive the award. All forms of campaigning activity will be considered.
Individuals will not be eligible for this award if their contribution is for or within CAMRA, as Campaigner of the Year is more appropriate.
Clubs are not eligible if their contribution is just selling real ale, cider or perry, as the National Club of the Year award is more appropriate.
A commitment to providing a great choice of cask beers has seen Barrie Lloyd scoop CAMRA’s Club Recognition Award.
Barrie is Royston Social Club’s secretary in St Albans where his dedication and hard work means there is a wider choice of cask beer in an area which is less populated with pubs. He was nominated for creating a desire and demand for quality beers within its membership.
The transformation from an establishment that solely offered mainstream keg products to a club providing a rotating selection of well-maintained cask beers from both from national and independent local brewers, has meant that it is now a mainstay in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide. The Royston Social Club has been awarded the South Hertfordshire Branch Club of the Year on three occasions since 2021.
