I want us to be the best Campaign we can be.
That’s why I put myself forward to be your national chairman, and why I have been part of the National Executive for the last seven years.
It’s also why I want you to think about if you have the drive and skills to be a CAMRA director too.
This year, we have six places up for election to the board, which means we want a stronger field of candidates than ever before.
We need a solid team of directors, with a mix of skills, who are not afraid to make bold choices and front up the changes we need to grow in numbers and influence.
This isn’t a role for the faint-hearted. You will need full-throated support for our cause, but you will also need to be willing to work as a team in the best interests of all our members.
One of my favourite parts of being a member of the National Executive has been the opportunity to put myself in front of the membership. I’ve been able to speak with a wider range of our members, discuss my ideas, but also hear other opinions and learn from them.
You get back what you put in to being a director. I’ve gone into it with an open mind, trying to communicate as openly as possible, and I’ve got the same back from members in return. It means I’ve made better decisions, and that has meant more meaningful changes for the Campaign.
One of our biggest strengths is that we have a democratically elected board made up of our members, rather than appointed trustees. If standing for election to the National Executive isn’t for you, please still vote in the upcoming elections. By voting, we are all part of putting together a board that represents our interests and makes us a better Campaign.
