The Good Beer Guide 2023

50th Anniversary edition of The Good Beer Guide

CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide

50th Edition

The Good Beer Guide has evolved and developed over the last 50 years and this edition is another step in its evolution.

This year we have made the Guide much more user-friendly and accessible, featuring regional entries introduced by the award-winning writer of 50 Years of CAMRA, Laura Hadland, and bringing together pub and brewery information for the first time, making it easier to find your new favourite local ale.

The foreword for this anniversary edition has been written by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Writing for CAMRA Laura Hadland has shown that she has developed and gained invaluable insight understanding and appreciation of the CAMRA members and volunteers and their place in the beer landscape of the UK. We are delighted to have her on board again for this special anniversary Good Beer Guide.

“……something I tried out recently, which I think could make a really striking and attractive approach for the 50th cover. It is to give the feeling of an elaborate colourful mosaic. This provides a good combination of a jewel-like, crafted quality while still having plenty of punch. It is the sense of ‘craftsmanship’ that should glow from it. ”

Why I have ordered a copy of the Special Collector’s Edition of the 50th Anniversary Good Beer Guide?

Having written nearly twenty beer and pub guides in my time I am painfully aware that their second-hand value is not very high. The hardback edition of the 50th Anniversary Good Beer Guide is likely to break that pattern and become a great investment. With the print run limited to advanced sales only and aimed at CAMRA members and GBBF customers, demand is virtually guaranteed to outstrip supply, as there fewer copies available to book collectors who are neither members nor attendees. Just as importantly, because the hardback edition will be sold only at full price and by direct sale, rather than at a deep discount, the Campaign will make considerably more money per copy from the collector’s edition than the regular one. It seems to me a brilliant idea that benefits both the buyer and the seller. Well done CAMRA Books!

it was amazing

The beer drinker’s Bible, focused squarely on real ale establishments throughout Great Britain, town by town, county by county. This is a particularly important edition,

Derbyshire Live

As I have no doubt said many times before, the Good Beer Guide is not perfect – no guide like it can be – and almost certainly there will be a pub or two within the pages of the new edition which will close before the book reaches its Christmas sales. But it remains the best of its type going and is genuinely independent. It also remains a beacon of some sort of normality.
