This Pub is Permanently Closed

Closed 2012/2013; now an "American-style steakhouse". Part of the pub, adjacent to the bank, is an early 16th century, Grade II, listed building. A Victorian brewery is also listed at the site. Historic Interest

May also be listed as a Commercial Inn & Posting House. Listed at 15 High St. in 1881. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 05 Jan in 1820 states that : "The White Hart Inn, at Mildenhall was burglariously entered & robbed of 3 hams, 2 pigs' faces & a piece of dried bacon". A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 07 Sep in 1853 states that : "James Smith GITTUS, offers thanks for the support he has received for the last 6 years at the Bell Inn, Mildenhall & announces his move to the White Hart." A report in the Bury & Norfolk Post & Suffolk Herald** on 18 Nov in 1884 states that : "William Cross (16y) of Tuddenham, lately in the employ of Mr H.J.FORTESQUE, of the White Hart Hotel, Mildenhall, was charged with stealing 2s 6d, the moneys of his master - Mr Fortesque stated that on 5th November Miss Glasier, the manager of the bar detected (the theft) & took it away from him & gave him into custody that night; the money was lying on a shelf in the bar. - The Bench thought money should not be left about, it was a temptation for servants to take it - Case dismissed."
