After various incarnations and periods of closure this site is now Permit Room, an all-day bar-cafe styled on Bombay pubs and operated by Dishoom. The name is inspired by the illegal drinking culture in many states after India's independence in 1947; by 1973 the law was relaxed and it became possible to apply for a permit to say you could drink alcohol.
The food is Indian-style apart from the breakfast menu which is Anglo-Indian! Options include kids' portions and local home-delivery. The bar walls feature art from both local and South Asian artists.
Note that whilst the licence permits sale of alcohol from 8am, up to 10am sale of alcohol must be ancillary to meal consumption.
