The closure is tied to broader structural renovations. Planning documents from Westminster Council show that the building at 23 Wellington Street is integrated with a larger redevelopment plan for the adjacent blocks (including 25-31 Wellington Street) to build and refurbish The Wellington Hotel. Because the land and the buildings are being reconfigured for this major hotel and boutique layout, the space is not being re-let as an individual standalone bar. Instead, the site is undergoing a long-term commercial transformation under the building's owners.

Previous description follows:

Part of a block of Grade II listed buildings in Wellington Street. Formerly the Old Bell pub, but now a cocktail bar (one of a chain across London), and now conforming with CAMRAs definition of a pub. No cask ale is available.
