Extensively refurbished for an upmarket “opulent” feel, the anchor is definitely an alfresco gastro pub, specialising in high quality. Set in beautiful surroundings and right next to a local public footpath to Thurstaton it is frequented by tourists and locals alike. Extensive outside areas provide alternative seating during the warmer months.

Historic Interest

Dating back to 1774, listed in Bagshaw's Directory of 1850, run by the same family from 1789 until acquired by Birkenhead Brewery in 1940. Described in 1980 a a small friendly pub serving Whitbread Special Cask Bitter by handpump.
