Historic Interest

A report in the Ipswich Journal*** on 27 Sep in 1800 states that : "Part of the Household Furniture of Mr Samual WEST, at the king's Head Inn, Kessingland - he being about to decline the public line of business." A report in the Ipswich Journal** on Jul-06 in 1876 when Mr Mallett was the landlord states that : "Two friends, Reeve Crowe & John Wright, had just returned from Spring fishing. They had to collect their wages from the Kings Head & for Wright this was £4 13s 4d after paying the ship's master his expenses. The 2 men left for Lowestoft but returned later & refuse drink by Mr Mallet. Crowe was sober but was trying to ply Wright, who was drunk, with drink. Wright woke next morning by the roadside & discovered his purse had been stolen. Crowe was arressted, found guilty of theft & sentenced to 6 months hard labour." A report in the Ipswich Journal** in Jan 1880 states that : "Mr W Mallett was granted an extension of time at the King's Head on the occasion of a house dinner."
