The front areas of the bar and snug are set in cottages dating from 1510, while a later extension contains a comfy lounge. The the small snug is often used as a function room. The four rooms have many old photos with the bar displaying one of the pub from 1887 and a map of Wednesbury from 1846.
Live solo artists perform on Saturday nights and a there's a regular quiz on Sundays. The four changing beers are sourced from around the country.
One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest
Listed status: Not listed
Refitted by Mitchells & Butlers around 1960, the interior comprises a little-altered layout of four small rooms and lobby bar. Many fittings are from both that time and the inter war period.
Occupying a building said to date back to 1510, the pub was partly rebuilt in 1913 then refurbished by M&B shortly after it passed to them in 1959. The best room is the cosy public bar at the front where both the pillared bar-back and panelled counter look to be inter war. The unusual lobby bar has a ply-panelled counter ant rear=left room also once had a counter; the canopy survives. The sixties refit was responsible for most of the fireplaces and fixed seating plus the 'half-timbering' on many of the walls - a real period piece. Doors have leaded glass panels and the beaten copper tables are of some age.
An old cottage pub, fake beams on the outside but some genuine ones inside. Has retained much of its layout, and the décor looks to be post-war (1950s-60s?) with copper-topped tables. Two entrances: (1) The left-hand one into a separate bar with good plain benches. (2) The right-hand one into a small lobby with the counter on the left; on the right is a delightful snug with benches, ‘beamed’ décor and a good (1930s?) timber fireplace with modern tiled infill; at the rear is a large traditional lounge on two levels.
