At one time a private house called the White House, opened by a local bookmaker and entrepreneur as a private members' club called the Rainbow Club in 1963, reverting to the name White House when it became a free house serving Tetleys. It was subsequently bought by the current owners, Samuel Smith's Old Brewery A handsome whitewashed pub with L-shaped interior on main road to Pontefract, former Good Beer Guide entry, popular with Rugby League fans and the après sports centre crowd a.k.a. Charlie's from the days when Charlie Raybould owned it There's been a Whitehouse in "Purston Jacklin" since at least the 1650s - not the current building, at that time lived in by the Shillitto family.
