This award winning rural free house is full of character and serves eight to ten competitively-priced beers direct from the cask together with Kentish Chiddingstone and Biddenden ciders. There are two regular cask ales brewed only for the Halfway House, Horsmonden Pale brewed by Kent Brewery and Brenchley Bitter brewed by Tonbridge Brewery. The expansive gardens, including one dedicated for families and children, come into their own on Whitsun and August bank holidays when festivals are held featuring up to 75 ales. Meal choices (not Sun evening) are chalked up in the bar. A half hour bus journey from Tunbridge Wells will drop you right outside the door but ring the bell or hail it!

There is a gradual step free incline from the car park up to the lower front door, then one step down into the main body of the pub. Access via the right hand side door direct into the bar area has two steps up with a handrail. The nature of this rustic pub with a labyrinth of rooms on multiple levels is that from the bar there are many steps to negotiate and some passages are quite narrow. Overhanging beams and low headroom in places require taller customers to take care in moving around. There is no fully accessible toilet.
