Partington’s last pub. It was opened in 1981 by Greenall’s to serve the newly built estate at the west end of Partington but it does very little trade. Local people mainly drink in the two clubs (Working Men’s and Partington Social) or travel to other villages. RBNB bought the pub from Greenall’s when the latter exited the licensed trade.The pub is a typical estate pub of the late 1970s/early 1980s, being a modest low-roofed building apparently cast adrift in an extensive car park. It is within a few strides of the Oak Road bus terminus.The front door is electronically locked and opened by the bar staff after they have glanced at the CCTV monitor. This gives onto a large and rather plush lounge, which will generally be quite empty. The bar facing the visitor will be similarly empty and bereft of handpumps. The real action is behind another door, in the vault or pool room. Here are three handpumps, of which only one is generally in use. Very occasionally a second Oakwell beer has been offered (e.g. Senior).It is inevitably a locals’ pub but they are generally welcoming or at least do not disturb the occasional stranger.
