This is a restaurant, where drinking alcohol, including draught and bottled beer, is only allowed when food is being consumed.
A former pub that Pubmaster got permission to convert to a house in 1995. Reopened as a tea room in 2019, closing again in September 2022.
A Hogget (one 't' as used in the pub name, rather than the two in the house name) is a domestic sheep between one and two years of age (source: Wikipedia).
Appears in the 9th Essex Beer Guide with comment "Pubmaster - no real ale", in the 8th as selling "Cheltenham (Flowers) Flowers IPA" on handpump, in the 7th as selling "Webster Yorkshire Bitter", and in "Real Ale in Essex" as selling "Norwich Castle" with an additional description of "This friendly pub's garden has a large fishpond and sufficient animals to stock a small farmyard".
Historic Interest
Closed approx 01/09/1995 after change of use to housing granted on 31/08/1995. Reopened as tea room 25/04/2019, closing again after business on 16/09/2022
