A side street pub named after local Victorian financier and philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore it has featured regularly in the Guide in past years and has recently been taken over by Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds’), a selection of whose beers are always on offer and served in reliably excellent condition. The “Monte” is a welcoming wet-led traditional place and is a popular destination for local and visiting ale enthusiasts alike. Holds a monthly charity quiz. The pub is closed on Mondays.
Historic Interest
The pub is named after Sir Moses Montefiore, former Sheriff of London, campaigner for Jewish rights, philanthropist and local benefactor who lived on the Ramsgate East Cliff for much of his life until his death at the age of 100 in 1885.
