This Pub is Permanently Closed
Pub named after a small sloop-rigged coasting ship or heavy barge used for freight, that plied a trade between London and the north Kent coast, in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, that allowed middle class Londoners to escape the city for the more rural air of Margate. The Ambrette restaurant took over the premises in early summer closing its former base in the old George Hotel in the Old Town.
