Friendly oak-beamed village local, parts of which date back to 1690. Sells a range of real ales and good wholesome locally sourced food at reasonable prices. Guest beers often come from local breweries. Redecorated recently but the layout is unchanged since the 1960s. The interior comprises a public bar, snug, lounge and a function room upstairs, which is used by many local groups, including a thriving folk club. Close to St James's Church, it is on the Five Churches walk and handy for historic Anston Stones Wood and the nearby Butterfly Farm. Been a Good Beer Guide regular and frequent winner of local CAMRA awards.
