A Tardis-like L-shaped Bateman's pub, situated just two minutes from the city centre. Photographs of local boxing heroes and other sporting champions adorn the walls of the larger bar. There is an outdoor area adjacent to the pub with tables and parasols, great when the weather is good!
This traditional cosy pub is known to date back to at least 1845. It is named after a London boxer, Daniel Mendoza, who was an extraordinary middleweight fighter. He became English Champion, which was then, equivalent to World Champion, weighing 160lb. He was acclaimed the first scientific fighter and after he retired he toured across theatres, and visited Norwich in 1790. In his act, which included no violence or indecency, he depicted various heroic styles of great boxers.
Check out the beer bottles on display above the seating area of the pub - there are more than 10 green bottles!
