This Pub is Closed Long Term
Closed 17/11/2013. Change of use granted 11/3/2011. Planning Application 093248/FO/2010/C1 | Proposed development for 68 student accommodation units plus 2 cluster units with ancillary support services and cafe bar, including conversion and new building following partial demolition of the existing building. Granted 11/3/2011.
History: it described itself as a Beer Hall, perhaps even the ultimate student beer hall, and that is what you got. Set in a most characterful building, it had a long bar alongside which were tables to stand up at. Above and parallel to those was a series of deep booths set out refectory style. A small snug area off this has some more comfy lounge furniture. Popular student venue. Table football machine. It was always going to be a huge money-spinner and its success laid the foundations for the locally successful Hale Leisure chain of bars and pubs.
Historic Interest
Opened in early 1990s in the former Holy Name Hall (note the inscribed tablet on the main wall), pert of the Holy Name church on Oxford Road.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers (guest beers) and 0 regular beers.
