The Smoak Bar & Grill, plus the Ember Lounge occupy this smart city centre hotel location. Prior to it being an hotel, it was the Joshua Hoyle building; this fell into disuse and was empty for most of the 1990s. Extended and enhanced in the early noughties it is now a boutique hotel retaining many of the Victorian architectural features the building had. Interestingly it is built across the Rochdale Canal. After a flirtation with cask Caledonian Deuchars IPA in 2013-15, they dropped cask in favour of Meantime keg beers.
