A former coaching inn situated within Anstey Conservation area and described by the local authority as a "Key Unlisted Building". The Old Hare & Hounds is a village pub of traditional character, consisting of a small bar on the right and a bar-lobby to the left opened out into a former smoke room, with a separate dining room off. Behind the front bars is a lounge area at a higher level. Out the back is a yard furnished with picnic tables. All real ales are sourced from Marston's group breweries.

Historic Interest

The pub was owned by Daniel Pettifor's Steam Brewery, Anstey (established 1840), which was located further along Bradgate Road. Pettifors were taken over by Marstons in 1900.

Unusual floorplan with steps off bar and lounge to adjoining upper rooms, now conjoined. Matchboard to dado in lounge carries unusually patterned result of earlier ? Arrangements. Possibly changed in the 60/70s - the quarry tiled floor on the left is old but an old partition removed. Left room has old half panelling with a strange 4 holes pattern, an Edwardian fireplace and old benches, some of which have moved. Bar fittings and all other fixed seating is new.
