Hotel and Restaurant.
The Ghillies Bar at the Altnaharra Hotel does not sell real ale (yet) but is included so as to include all the licensed premises in the Highlands & Western Isles Branch Area.
However it does have bottled beers, mainly from Orkney (Northern Light, Dark Island etc)
Originally a drover’s inn dating back to the 17th Century, it is still attracting the "hunting, shooting and fishing plus "out doors" types and those who just want to get away from it all, the Altnaharra Hotel has been increasingly popular as an ideal first stop after, or last stop before John O'Groats, just 70 miles away.
Bar food available to order during the day up to18:30 when dining switches to the restaurant only.
Please be advised that table bookings, particularly if not resident are essential - weeks ahead!
Other than 14 bedrooms there is also a log cabin offering three rooms of "basic" but very "warm and comfy" accommodation. There is also secure storage for bikes and a drying room.
The Met station at Altnaharra holds the (joint) record for the lowest temperature in the UK of - 27.2 degC on 30 Dec 1995.
Closed Oct to end of Feb, reopening at the beginningf March every year.
