This Hotel is Permanently Closed
This is a hotel, which means that the bar is only open to residents.
Now closed to the public and converted into a wedding venue. Independently run hotel for 46 years. Originally an eye-hospital founded in 1774 by Dr. Henry Lilley-Smith, the architecture reflects this. Note the unusual pointed arched windows. In 1823 the world's first dispensary was established here, celebrated by a nearby monument and in the naming of the hotel's bar. Relax in the comfortable airy lounge, 5 guest beers normally available. Hosts monthly live music events and a midsummer beer festival in June.
