Somewhat hidden in the back streets, this classic pub started life as a cider house and only became an ale house at the start of the 20th century. The lounge and public bars were combined into one around the turn of the millennium but the pub maintains much of its Victorian charm. Marston's etched glass windows survive from the 20th century.

A lovely community ambience where accompanied children are welcome up until 7pm. Plentiful buses are about 330m away on Shirley Road. The garden is an urban oasis to enjoy a pint of cask ale, and also hosts the pub's beer festival. The pub has one cribbage team.

While Millbrook is the nearest Railway Station the service is relatively poor. Southampton Central is just over a mile away and frequent bus services on Shirley Road connect with it.

Newspapers are available for customers at the weekend only.

Minimum £5 for card payments, cash accepted.

Historic Interest

Built 1830s possibly as a cider house. By early 20th century it had an ale house licence and it acquired a full licence in 1957.
