This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Black Lion was a converted thatched barn dating from c1425. It became a pub in 1869 and was for many years a Truman's tied house serving excellent meals prepared under the watchful eye of the legendary Danish landlady.
It was destroyed by an arsonist (believed to be a disgruntled customer) after closing time on 16 January 2009. No-one was ever charged for this despicable act, although a Dartford teenager was interviewed by police.
There was some talk of restoration, but this came to nothing and the site was cleared for housing a few years later. A desperately sad loss for the village.
